Family tour in Lapland

Arrival at the chosen airport in Lapland. After collecting our luggage, we'll go to the hotel of your choice in the Kemi Tornio Haparanda area, in the region of Lapland, a region crossed by the border between Sweden and Finland. Here, you speak two languages, use two currencies, and live in two different time zones! We will go to the facility of your choice from a wide range of possibilities.

Upon arrival in the city you can try on your arctic overalls and shoes, which will be at your disposal throughout the tour. We will then have a welcome dinner, where we will explain the program. Conditions permitting, we will guide you on the first hunt for the Northern Lights.

Breakfast is served as a buffet in the restaurant room. Afterwards we transfer by private vehicle to Kukkola, a historic village on the bank of the Tornio River, on the Swedish side. Here we spend a few hours on the banks of the longest rapids in all of Lapland, over 3500m. We visit the adjoining heritage fishing village, where you can see numerous historic buildings and learn how life was in this area before modern times.

Later, we visit the fascinating fish museum, where we learn together the secrets of one of the most fishy rivers in all of Europe. Afterwards, we can sit around the fire in the kota (the typical wooden hut of these areas) ofthe village where we learn how to make bread in the traditional Lappish way, in front of the fire, guided by a local: you can taste the bread you have made, accompanied by a tasty fish salad and a hot drink. 

Afterwards, you can try traditional fishing on the frozen river: with the help of a drill we will dig a hole in the ice that covers the Torne river. We will teach you the techniques for fishing for perch, pike or grayling trough the ice blanket that covers the river. A hot drink and snack will be served during the fishing session. Fishing takes place in a natural environment, and therefore the catch is not guaranteed.

Upon return you have time to relax in your hotel. Dinner is not included. In case of favorable weather conditions, we may arrange a hunt for the Northern Lights.

After breakfast, we depart upon a private transfer towards Rovaniemi. The capital of Lapland is best known for the Santa Claus Village, located across the Arctic Circle. We show you the most significant buildings in this dreamy location, with activities for the whole family. Among others, you can see the Post Office, souvenir shops, restaurants, as well as Santa's office, where you can meet Santa in person. You have plenty of free time to go through the entire village at your leisure. Around mid-afternoon, we depart back to the hotel.

Dinner is served in a typical restaurant and is included in the tour fee. Afterwards, we may try and observe the Northern Lights, weather permitting.

After breakfast, we reach a husky farm to go on a sleigh safari (duration about 30 minutes, can vary upon snow and weather conditions).The mushers welcome us and make us feel at home. After a brief explanation of safety instructions we set off on a wonderful ride in the forest, surrounded by nature while our sled is relentlessly pulled by our husky friends.

At the end of the safari, we are served a snack while we sit around the fire and talk to mushers. You can also pet the dogs and thank them for a great ride!

We then drive back to the hotel where you can have a free afternoon – why not try sauna? Dinner is not included.

In the evening, weather permitting, we can try and observe the Northern Lights.

After breakfast, we drive to a reindeer farm, run by a local family. These incredible animals have been the key to life in Lapland for centuries: we can feed them delicious lichens and take a ride on a sleigh pulled by them. We will also talk to the herders, who make us feel at home in the beautiful kota, around the open fire, where we are served a snack with a hot drink.

After this intense experience, we drive to Kemi to see the Snowcastle, where you and your children will be able to sled down the ice slides. The ice sculptures are also impressive, and when the Snowcastle winter park version is open (starting end January) you can visit that, too.

We drive back to the hotel where you have free time before farewell dinner is served in a typical restaurant (included in the fee). After dinner, weather permitting, we can again try to observe the Northern Lights.

In the morning breakfast is served at the hotel. We then check out and transfer to the chosen airport for your departure flight. We assist you with check-in formalities. End of the tour.
