Autumn in Lapland: Northern Lights, Huskies & Arctic Culture Experience

5 Days

Discover Autumn in Lapland

Autumn in Lapland is a season of contrast, silence, and color. Forests turn vibrant shades of red and gold, while the air becomes crisp and fresh. At the same time, daylight slowly shortens, creating ideal conditions for Northern Lights viewing. Because tourism is quieter in October and November, the region feels authentic and unhurried.

This Autumn Lapland tour combines nature, culture, and Arctic wildlife in one carefully designed experience. Rather than focusing on extreme adventure, the journey balances comfort with meaningful exploration. As a result, travelers can enjoy Lapland at a relaxed pace while still experiencing its most iconic highlights.

Arctic Experiences for All Ages

The program includes husky encounters, reindeer visits, Arctic animals, and the famous Santa Claus Village. However, the itinerary also goes beyond classic excursions. Cross-border culture between Finland and Sweden, local traditions, and small boutique accommodation add depth to the experience.

Because group sizes remain limited, every activity feels personal and immersive. Whether you travel as a couple, with children, or with friends, the atmosphere remains intimate and welcoming. Moreover, the possibility of seeing the Aurora Borealis during this period adds a unique dimension to the journey.

Comfort Meets Authenticity

Accommodation is provided in a centrally located boutique hotel in Tornio, close to both Finland and Sweden. From there, daily excursions allow you to explore forests, rivers, Arctic wildlife, and historic villages.

Although weather conditions can vary from mild autumn days to early winter snow, the trip adapts accordingly. Optional activities such as husky sledding or reindeer rides are available when snow conditions permit. Therefore, each departure maintains flexibility while maximizing the Arctic experience.

Above all, this journey offers an authentic introduction to Lapland in one of its most magical seasons.

Day 01 :
Arrival in Finnish Lapland

Arrival at your selected airport. Afterwards, transfer to Tornio, a unique border town where Finland and Sweden meet along the Tornio River.

Accommodation is provided at the boutique Hotel Olof, located in the city center within walking distance of restaurants and historic sites. During the evening, a welcome dinner introduces the program. If conditions are favorable, an optional Northern Lights outing may follow.

Day 02 :
Husky Experience in Keminmaa

Following breakfast, travel to a husky farm near Keminmaa. There, breeders introduce you to the dogs and explain their Arctic heritage.

Depending on snow conditions, an optional husky sled safari may be available. After a short safety briefing, the route crosses forest landscapes for approximately 20–30 minutes. Later, warm drinks are served around the fire before returning to Tornio.

The evening remains free, with the possibility of another Aurora Borealis observation.

Day 03 :
Reindeer Traditions and Snow Castle

The morning begins at a traditional reindeer farm. Here, local hosts share stories about centuries-old Arctic livelihoods. Guests may feed the animals and relax inside a heated kota hut.

In the afternoon, travel to Kemi to visit the indoor Snow Castle exhibition. Ice sculptures and artistic installations create a playful atmosphere. Dinner is served in the evening, followed by optional Northern Lights viewing.

Day 04 :
Arctic Wildlife in Ranua

After breakfast, head toward Ranua Wildlife Park. The walking trail extends approximately two kilometers through natural Arctic terrain. Along the way, you may observe lynx, musk oxen, owls, and the iconic polar bear.

Later, return to Tornio for a farewell dinner featuring regional ingredients. If skies remain clear, a final Aurora observation may be organized.

Day 05 :
Santa Claus Village and Departure

The final morning includes a transfer to Rovaniemi and a visit to Santa Claus Village, located directly on the Arctic Circle. Shops, restaurants, and the official Santa Claus House create a festive atmosphere.
